About Chopta
Chopta is the most romantically remote honeymoon destination — a pristine alpine meadow within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary with extraordinarily low light pollution (Milky Way is strikingly visible), complete solitude, and powerful wild beauty. The Deoria Tal sunrise, the Tungnath temple trek together, and the candlelit camp evenings under an unobstructed Himalayan sky create an experience of exceptional intimacy.
Places to See
• Deoria Tal at Sunrise (the perfect Chaukhamba reflection, 2.5 km trek from Sari village — one of Uttarakhand's most romantic natural scenes)
• Tungnath Temple Trek (3.5 km shared, world's highest Shiva temple)
• Chandrashila Summit Together (4,130 m — a shared summit achievement)
• Camping Under Stars (extraordinary dark sky — Milky Way clearly visible)
• Rhododendron Forest Walk (April–May, scarlet blooms)
• Wildlife at Dawn (monal pheasant, musk deer)
Best Time
April–May (rhododendron bloom, snowcapped backdrop — the most beautiful honeymoon season). October–November (post-monsoon clarity, fewer tourists — the most intimate). November–January (snow trek to Tungnath, most unusual and romantic).
How to Reach
Road: Rishikesh → Rudraprayag → Ukhimath → Chopta (228 km, ~7 hrs). Shared jeeps from Ukhimath (13 km).
Things to Do
• Deoria Tal sunrise (stay overnight near Sari village the night before — non-negotiable)
• Trek to Tungnath together (3.5 km)
• Summit Chandrashila (4,130 m)
• Candlelit camp dinner under the stars
• Dawn wildlife walk
Tips
Only a handful of eco-camps at Chopta — book the best one well ahead. Deoria Tal (5 AM) requires staying near Sari village the night before — absolutely worth it. Carry warm clothing for camp evenings (8–12°C even in May). The night sky is extraordinary — bring a star map app.
