The Pindari Glacier trek is the crown jewel of Kumaon trekking — a classic trail first popularised in the 19th century that leads to the snout of a magnificent glacier cradled between Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot peaks. At around 12,300 feet, Zero Point offers a humbling view of the glacier's icy expanse and the towering walls that feed it.
The trek begins from Khati or Kharkiya village beyond Bageshwar, following the Pindar River upstream through some of the most pristine landscapes in Uttarakhand. The trail passes through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo, waterfalls plunging hundreds of feet, and traditional Kumaoni villages where time moves slowly. Khati, the last inhabited village, welcomes trekkers with homestays and mountain hospitality that has hosted travellers for over a century.
Beyond Dwali and Phurkia, the landscape turns alpine — glacial moraines, snowfields, and meadows grazed by sheep. At Zero Point, the Pindari Glacier reveals itself beneath Nanda Kot (6,861 m) and the Nanda Devi massif. The resident sadhu of Pindari, Dharam Baba, has famously offered tea and shelter to trekkers for decades near the glacier base.
The trek spans about 45–50 km over 6–7 days and is rated moderate, with well-defined trails and KMVN rest houses along the route — a comfort rare on Himalayan treks. Ideal seasons are April–June and September–October.
Combine your journey with the nearby Kafni Glacier trail, which branches from Dwali, for an extended adventure. Discover the gentler, greener face of Himalayan trekking in Kumaon — book your Pindari Glacier trek with UttarakhandTours.in.
