About Devprayag (Spiritual)
Devprayag is the most sacred of the Panch Prayags — where the jade-green Alaknanda meets the milky-white Bhagirathi to form the Ganga. The 9th-century Raghunathji Temple stands on the rocky promontory above. The community of hereditary Vedic scholars (pandas) here has maintained genealogical records of pilgrims' families for 1,200+ years. The visual drama of the two strikingly different-coloured rivers visibly merging is one of the most powerful natural–spiritual spectacles in India.
Places to See
• Devprayag Sangam (exact confluence point — two different-coloured rivers form the Ganga, the most visually dramatic Panch Prayag)
• Raghunathji Temple (9th century, Lord Vishnu, cliff above the confluence)
• Sacred Bathing Ghat (most auspicious Panch Prayag ghat for pinda daan)
• Pandas of Devprayag (1,200-year genealogical records)
• Suspension Bridge (aerial view of the confluence)
• Chandrabadni Temple (14 km, Shakti Peetha, panoramic views)
Best Time
Year-round. March–May (snowmelt — maximum river flow and colour contrast). September–October (post-monsoon calm). Best at dawn before other visitors arrive.
