Khurpatal

Khurpatal is a small, serene lake set amid dense forest just a short drive below Nainital, a peaceful counterpoint to the busier hill station nearby. Surrounded by pine and oak-clad slopes, it is known for the way its waters shift through shades of green and blue with the changing light and depth.

Far quieter than Naini Lake, Khurpatal is a favourite of anglers, birdwatchers and those seeking solitude, with the surrounding hills offering gentle walks and fine views over the valley.

Its calm, off-the-beaten-track atmosphere makes it an easy and rewarding escape from Nainital's crowds — a place to slow down beside still water framed by forest, often combined with a visit to nearby Kainchi Dham or the lakes of the Bhimtal cluster.

March–June and September–November for pleasant weather and clear lake colours.
