About Tapkeshwar Temple
Tapkeshwar is a unique ancient Shiva temple inside a natural cave on the Tons river in Dehradun. The defining feature is a natural waterfall (tapakna = dripping) that falls continuously from the cave roof directly onto the Shiva lingam — a rare natural abhishek (ritual anointing) performed by nature itself. The combination of natural rock cave, underground spring, river, and the self-performing natural lingam anointing creates a profoundly atmospheric sacred space.
Places to See
• Tapkeshwar Shiva Temple (cave temple, natural waterfall dripping onto lingam — nature's own abhishek)
