Overview
Gangotri and Yamunotri are the holiest sources of India's two most sacred rivers — the Ganga and the Yamuna. Yamunotri, at 3,293 metres, is the westernmost of the Char Dhams and the source of the Yamuna, the river that nurtured the civilisation of the Gangetic plains. Gangotri, at 3,048 metres, is where the Bhagirathi River — which becomes the Ganga — originates, with the actual source (Gaumukh Glacier) a further 18 km upstream. This focused six-day journey combines the blessings of Goddess Yamuna and Goddess Ganga in a single devotional tour through the Uttarkashi district.
