About Almora
Almora is the cultural heart of Kumaon, established by the Chand Rajas in 1568. It attracted Swami Vivekananda, Allen Ginsberg, and Gary Snyder — drawn by the Kasar Devi spiritual energy zone (proven to be in the Van Allen Belt). Known for traditional brassware, Almora shawls, and the uniquely Kumaoni sweets Bal Mithai and Singori. Jageshwar's 124 temples (36 km) and the Chitai Golu Devta Temple (thousands of written wish-petitions) are unmissable.
