About Sattal & Naukuchiatal
Sattal (Seven Lakes) and Naukuchiatal (Nine-Cornered Lake) in the Kumaon Lake District offer Uttarakhand's finest combination of water sports and natural history. Sattal's 500+ bird and butterfly species make it one of India's richest natural sites. Naukuchiatal at 40 m depth is the deepest lake in Kumaon and has the best paragliding thermals in the region. The combination of aerial adventure, water sports, and extraordinary birdwatching makes the twin lakes the most diverse single-day adventure programme in Kumaon.

How to Reach
• Road: Nainital → Sattal (23 km)
• Nainital → Naukuchiatal (26 km). Bhimtal → both lakes (~10 km each). Hire taxi from Nainital or Kathgodam.
Things to Do
• Paragliding over Naukuchiatal (aerial view of the nine-corner shape)
• Kayaking on Sattal's Nal Damyanti Tal
• Dawn birdwatching walk 5:30–8 AM
• Bhuvneshwar Cave Temple at Naukuchiatal
• Sattal forest nature trail
• Bhimtal Island Aquarium (12 km, additional)
Tips
Use DGCA-certified paragliding operators only. Dawn walks with a local birding guide are essential for serious birdwatching. Stay overnight rather than day-tripping from Nainital — the early morning light is when both lakes are most magical. The Naukuchiatal nine-corner shape is only fully appreciated from the air — plan paragliding partly for the aerial perspective.
