About Lansdowne
Lansdowne is a quiet cantonment in Pauri Garhwal whose 130+ years of military discipline have preserved its forest cover and traditional character in outstanding condition. The Garhwal Rifles regimental headquarters maintains one of India's finest military museums. Traffic is minimal, the bazaar small, and the surrounding forests of chir pine and oak are alive with birds. The Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple (38 km) in deep deodar forest is one of Garhwal's most atmospheric shrines.
