About Dehradun
Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, sits in the broad, fertile Doon Valley between the Himalayan foothills and the Shivalik ranges, with the Ganga and the Yamuna flanking it on either side. Long famous for its leafy avenues, basmati rice, litchi orchards and prestigious schools and institutions, it has a pleasant, easygoing character that blends old-world charm with the bustle of a growing city.
The city is a centre of learning and administration, home to landmarks such as the Forest Research Institute — a magnificent colonial-era building set in vast grounds — the Indian Military Academy, and the Tibetan settlements around the Mindrolling Monastery and its towering Great Stupa.
For visitors, Dehradun is both a destination and a springboard: attractions like Robber's Cave (Guchhupani), the Sahastradhara sulphur springs, the Tapkeshwar cave temple and Malsi Deer Park fill an easy day or two, while the city serves as the main gateway to the hill station of Mussoorie and the Char Dham pilgrimage routes beyond.

Best Time to Visit
September to April is most pleasant. Summers can be warm and the monsoon heavy, though the valley stays greener than the plains.
